This article seems to labor under the impression that increases longevity, birthrate, and population, particularly in the 3rd World, is a ‘good thing’.

    It’s not.

    1. Quint says:

It is. What are you talking about

      1. Kit Tona says:

I suspect what that person is talking about is some kind of racist nonsense about increasing populations in the third world equalling too many poor dark-skinned people for their liking therefore they should be left to rot and die where possible, especially the babies, pregnant women, the disabled and the elderly.
Sounds like the kind of fool who doesn’t understand that improving birth outcomes and child health REDUCES population numbers due to the falling need to have a whole bunch of kids in the hope enough of them will survive to one day look after the disabled and the elderly. As one example.
When the information gets a little more complex than A=B+C, or becomes counter-intuitive, a lot of people run and hide in the “common sense” tent squawking because they don’t understand the data, and they’re given shelter by political nutjobs who thrive on other peoples’ confusion.
We’re yet to discover a vaccine for fools, arseholery or racism.

You’re absolutely wrong. Rutting habits in the third world haven’t changed at all despite plunging infant mortality rates.

  7. TRUTH says:

KIT TONA (above) is just plain wrong.

“improving birth outcomes and child health REDUCES population numbers due to the falling need to have a whole bunch of kids in the hope enough of them will survive to one day look after the disabled and the elderly.”

Rutting habits in the third world haven’t changed despite infant mortality plunging. The problem is still very much a cultural one. Do some research.
