Here are just some of the places to go and things to do when you visit the Galapagos Islands.
1. Tortuga Bay and El Chato Tortoise Reserve
Among the island’s many unusual living creatures, the giant tortoises are one of the most-loved.
And, at Tortuga Bay and the neighboring El Chato Tortoise Reserve on Santa Cruz Island, you’ll get an up-close glimpse at these magnificent creatures. Plus, you can climb in tortoise shells and through tunnels of hardened lava as well.
Don’t forget to bring your camera to the sites for what’s promised to be plenty of photo ops.
But, keep your hands (and your snacks) to yourselves. There are strict rules against touching or feeding the island’s famed tortoise inhabitants.
2. Snorkeling and Diving
You’d be missing out not to take advantage of the plentiful opportunities for snorkeling and diving while visiting the Galapagos Islands.
Take your pick of unforgettable underwater views you’re sure not to see anywhere else.
3. Charles Darwin Research Station
The Charles Darwin Research Station is an all-time island favorite.

4. Leon Dormido
About an hour’s boat ride from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, passers-by can view the Leon Dormido.
The vertical, sheer-walled tuff cone offers an amazing backdrop for dramatic sunsets.
Smaller boats can weave between the gaping split rock. Only, don’t expect to explore this attraction on-foot, as there is no place to land.
5. Sierra Negra Volcano
The Sierra Negra Volcano reaches an astonishing 4,500 feet high.
Although it’s still active, there haven’t been any recordings of it stirring since 2005.
Take a look at the glowing embers and hike alongside the fearsome vistas. The majestic volcano makes for an experience you’ll never forget.
