Here are 5 things you should know.
1. If you’re selling stuff online and people text your number asking for a 6 digit verification code, then they’re trying to steal your phone number.
An experience shared: ” Trying to sell some stuff online. I put my phone number out there so it’s easier for people to reach me and for me to reach them (I miss people’s email time to time). Then a person immediately texts me asking me about the product I’m selling. That person then tells me that they’ve sent me a 6 digit verification code through Google Voice. Apparently… It’s to verify if I’m a legitimate seller or not.
It’s a scam. Feel free to Google it yourself. They’re setting up a Google Voice under your phone number and they’re trying to get it verified. Why is it important to know this? Because they can do whatever they want with your phone number, under your name. Stay safe!”
2. Applying Super Glue (cyanoacrylate) to cotton or wool results in a rapid chemical reaction that releases enough heat to cause minor burns. If enough cyanoacrylate is added to the cotton or wool, the fabric will catch on fire, making this a great trick to keep in mind in survival situations.
Generally, cotton and wool are readily available and cyanoacrylate is always a good thing to have on hand in first aid kits, due to its wound-healing ability. So if you ever find yourself lost in the woods with nothing but a first aid kit and no other easy means to start a fire, this little trick might help you out.
3. “Weary” does not mean suspicious or skeptical about something. You want “leery” or “wary” instead.
4. There is a website called BobRTC that allows you to call various different scammers from their website for free in order to waste their time so they have less time to scam innocent people.
It is a lot of fun and a great way to ensure fewer people are getting scammed out of their hard-earned money.
5. Restaurant chains are selling food under fake names on delivery apps to try to take advantage of people supporting local restaurants.
Pasqually’s Pizza & Wings = Chuck E. Cheese
Rotisserie Roast = Boston Market
Neighborhood Wings = Applebee’s
A lot of people are going out of their way to supports local businesses during this shutdown. If this is important to you, make sure the small business you are supporting is actually a small business.
