Here are 5 things you should know.
1. If you have a friend that is very sick with cancer, some great gifts are warm socks, skincare products, and your favorite physical copy of a photo with you and them with a written message on the back.
People with cancer going through treatment have circulation problems meaning that they have cold feet hence the socks. Also, the treatment they are receiving dries out the skin, and decent skincare products can give a lot of relief. And most important the photo that you give with a personal message will be a treasured item that will give hope.
2. Licking things is natural to dogs and they should be allowed to have opportunities to do so.
Many people complain about their dog´s excessive licking and ban them from doing so. But licking is one of the things that help dogs calm down in many, not just stressful situations. It is as natural for them as let us say, reading a book or watching a TV show for us, people. If you have a dog, you can surprise them by either a special licking mat (you can buy it online), a food-safe silicone mat used under hot dishes, or just some paté or nut butter thinly spread on a bigger tray. It takes them a while to lick and calms and slowly tires them in the best possible way.
It is a great way of entertainment for rainy days, for days when you have a lot of work to do, or your 4 legged friend has to rest after a medical procedure. By this, you can also (partially) redirect unwanted licking of your hands or face.
3. Here is the link found between asthma in toddlers and prenatal exposure to air pollution.
Context: article
Clean air solutions are not just a matter of climate change, but a matter of public health as well. The article talks about a new study that shows how pregnant mothers who were exposed to air pollution had babies who, when toddlers, had a significant increase in diagnoses of asthma. A previous study by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America also looked at the association of children’s direct exposure to air pollution particles and episodes of asthma. It states that “a study of young campers with moderate to severe asthma showed they were 40 percent more likely to have acute asthma episodes on high pollution summer days than on days with average pollution levels.” An increase in air pollution is going to lead to serious implications down the road regarding health complications and it’s an issue that should be at the forefront.
4. Removing the orange tip from toy guns can be dangerous.
The orange tip on toy guns is a universal sign that the gun is fake. If a toy gun has its orange tip removed or painted over, strangers might assume it’s real and be forced to defend themselves.
This is especially dangerous for kids, who tend to play fight with their friends or run around in public. Some kids will remove the orange tip or sharpie over it so the gun looks more realistic. Parents, make sure your kids know not to do that.
Adults are free to modify their airsoft guns, but they should be aware of how strangers might react. Don’t aim them at anyone in the view of strangers, unless you’re in an airsoft arena. Consider keeping them out of view when not in use.
5. You could drown in shallow water pools due to a phenomenon called Shallow Water Blackout.
Basically, your urge to breathe is based on how much CO2 is in your blood (more CO2 more urge to breathe). So if you hyperventilate and lower your CO2 levels and dive underwater, you will not have the urge to breathe but in fact, you would be low on Oxygen and may pass out without any signs and drown.
