    The pack-size recommendation seems way on the small end to me. It might be possible to throw weeks’ worth of gear into a 40L pack, but it would take a lot of time and effort every day. Also compressing everything like that, fragile things might break.

    The way I see it a 60-80 Liter pack is worth the two extra pounds for the packing time it will save. Also, if midday comes and you want suddenly want some special shirt or whatever, it’s really nice to have room to rummage around for it. Bonus: you can pack crackers and bulky things without worrying about space.
