How did no one mention “A Wrinkle in Time”? That book is effed…

“I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream”
    Short story by Harlan Ellison
    Worth reading.

That’s the first one that popped into my head when I read the heading. A story that grabs ahold of you and never lets go. The second one I though of was “Other People” by Neil Gaiman- and “Murder Mysteries”, Gaiman as well.

PLEASE HELP: I don’t know the name of this short story, but I want to know if anyone knows it.
This kid has an annoying little brother who always tags along. Then the little boy is kidnapped. The older boy liked to make prank calls (particular; “Is your fridge running? You should go catch it!”). He makes a prank call and this guy picks up. He’s making the joke and he hears something in the background. It’s his brother crying for help. The guy quickly hangs up. The boy begs the Operator for the address and calls the police. The police save the boy and arrest his abductors. But the boy is in bad shape. The book doesn’t go into details, but the boy has horrible internal injuries. The kid dies at the hospital.
That book really screwed me up when I was a kid. I can’t remember enough that a Google search does any good. Trust me, I’ve tried. I just want to find it again. If anyone knows what I might be talking about please reply. I’ll keep checking back.

So there’s this kid who can see dead people. It turns out, he can use his special ability to help give these spirits peace. He is helped along the way by a child psychologist with a striking resemblance to Bruce Willis. It turns out, the psychologist has been dead all along!
