Here are this week’s Life Pro Tips.
1. Keep an eye on OTHER news the next few days – most of the bad news being released will get buried beneath the bigger world news, which makes NOW a great time for people & businesses to release the things they want as few eyeballs on as possible.
2. Don’t “Hi” your coworkers on Slack or Teams in an attempt to rope them into a synchronous conversation they may not have time for. If you have a work-related question, simply ask it up front. If you need to schedule a chat, provide context so they can prioritize their time.
3. If you’re in a hurry and something goes wrong (e.g. can’t find your keys) resist the urge to get angry and focus on thinking clearly. It’s practice for a real crisis.
4. To Ukrainian.
If you find yourself forced to leave your home, don’t forget to take your photo albums with you. It sounds silly and not important. But if you can’t go back home again. Your memories and photos will make it easier for you sometimes.
You can always get a new passport/ID.
5. If you find yourself in a poor country and doing some haggling “for the experience”, remember that $1 means a lot more to the vendor than it does to you.
You may enjoy the feeling of getting a good bargain, but that feeling ends when you agree on a price. The reality is that the extra % you haggle off will mean a lot more to the vendor than it does to you. Put your hand in your pocket and surprise them with more than the starting price. The surprise on their face will make a better memory than the haggling experience.
