Here is a list of 9 Most Powerful and Influential Jedi to Have Existed.
Ki-Adi Mundi (92 BBY-19 BBY)
“[Count Dooku] is a political idealist, not a murderer” – about Padme’s belief that Dooku was behind the attempts on her life.
Mundi, a Cerean, was discovered at age four by the Jedi An’ya Kuro and became one of the few permitted by the Jedi Order to be trained starting beyond infancy. He was always highly regarded by the Jedi Council. He even sat on the council before being a Jedi Master – an honor few have ever seen and for that (amongst other things) he gains a spot on this list.
His species is known to have a spectacularly low birth rate, so Ki-Adi Mundi was granted a rare exception to the Jedi Order’s ban on marriage due to this and had a polygamous family of five wives and seven children, although he tried to avoid developing emotional attachments to them.
Ki-Adi Mundi dueled the famous dark Jedi-knight assassin Asajj Ventress and led countless assaults on his enemies. In the battle of Cerea, his entire family was murdered, which made Ki-Adi Mundi even more committed to his cause. He always entered violent battles with his troops’ complete loyalty. He often emerged from the chaos unarmed. He always played a huge role in wars and was on the front lines of every battle; he fought in the Clone Wars and almost died at the hands of General Grievous. Mundi was leading the Galactic Marines to battle on Mygeeto in 19 BBY when Palpatine began the Great Jedi Purge with Order 66, resulting in Mundi being shot to death by his own clone troopers.
Qui-Gon Jinn (92 BBY-32 BBY)
“Remember, concentrate on the moment. Feel, don’t think. Trust your instincts.”
Qui-Gon Jinn was a revered, yet unconventional Human Jedi Master. He was the Padawan to Count Dooku, later known as Darth Tyranus, and the mentor to Obi-Wan Kenobi and briefly Anakin Skywalker. He was seen as a Gray Jedi by some members of the Order due to his often being in conflict with the Jedi Council.
Early in his life Qui-Gon met a Noorian female by the name of Tahl. They quickly became best friends in the Jedi Academy at an early age and maintained their friendship way into their lives. Now, long being Jedi Master tensions in their relationship grew and through their conflict realized their romantic feelings for each other. Because the Jedi Order forbade love they set these feelings aside. Later on Tahl was kidnapped by a man named Bolag. When Qui-Gon found her near-death and was not able to heal her with his Force abilities. As she died, he wailed in anguish and seek vengeance for her death.
It was at this point in Qui-Gon’s life that he had been pushed to the edge of the dark side. He later tracked down Bolag with his apprentice Kenobi and cornered him. Enraged by his actions and the strong dark side emotions he was feeling he moved to kill Bolag but heard a mysterious voice, later revealed to be the voice of Tahl, requited his actions and realized the path he was following. He then took Bolag into custody and returned to Coruscant to give Tahl a proper burial.
On Tatooine, Qui-Gon discovered a young slave boy named Anakin Skywalker who was strong in the Force. Sensing the boy’s potential, Qui-Gon liberated Anakin from slavery. The Jedi Master presented Anakin to the Jedi Council, but they deemed the boy too old to begin training and dangerously full of fear and anger. They refused to allow Qui-Gon to train Anakin, but rescinded their decision to fulfill Qui-Gon’s dying wish. Along with Obi-Wan he faught Darth Maul in the Theed Funeral Temple and met his end when he fell at the hands of Darth Maul with Obi-Wan unable to help him as he was trapped behind a laser shield.
He notably discovered immortality through the Force which has a major impact on who the Jedi are and their understanding of the Force. Qui-Gon Jinn’s importance to the Star Wars saga cannot be understated.
Mace Windu (72 BBY-19 BBY)
Waitress: “Anything else?”
Yoda: “Yes. We would like our meal comped.”
Waitress: “Your meal will be comped.”
Mace Windu: “Stop that! What happened to only using the Force for knowledge and defense?”
Yoda: “Defending my wallet I was, from the evil price hikes.”
Hailing from the world of Haruun Kal, Mace Windu served as one of the last members of the Jedi High Council before the Great Jedi Purge and was even the Master of the Order in the days leading up to the Battle of Geonosis. Serving on the Council, Windu was often regarded as second only to the Grand Master Yoda, though Windu was eight centuries Yoda’s junior. Windu’s wisdom and power were considered legendary by many, as were the weight of his words.
Before he gave the title to Master Yoda, Mace Windu was the Master of the Jedi Order. He was one of the best lightsaber masters ever and even created the seventh form of lightsaber combat, called Vaapad. Something notable was that he was the only practitioner of this fighting style that never fell to the dark side. He was a great general, considered by everyone to be the best Jedi lightsaber duelist that ever lived. His iconic purple lightsaber was colored by a rare crystal that gave it that color.
Kit Fisto was with Mace Windu on his final night when they went to arrest Darth Sidious. Kit Fisto lost his life in the skirmish. Just when Mace Windu was about to end Sidious’ life, Anakin Skywalker betrayed him, and the Great Jedi Master fell at the hands of Darth Sidious.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (57 BBY-0BBY)
Obi-Wan Kenobi: “Why do I get the feeling you’re going to be the death of me?”
Anakin Skywalker: “Don’t say that Master. You’re the closest thing I have to a father. I love you. I don’t want to cause you pain.”
Obi-Wan Kenobi, later known as Ben Kenobi during his exile, was a legendary Jedi Master who played a significant role in the fate of the galaxy during the waning days of the Galactic Republic. He was the mentor of both Anakin and Luke Skywalker, training both in the ways of the Force. He had a long and tumultuous career that helped shape the fate of the entire galaxy. He fought and defeated Darth Maul, the Sith that killed his master, Qui-Gon Jinn. He was also one of the last members of the High Jedi Council. Ki-Adi Mundi was almost killed by General Grievous and Obi-Wan Kenobi dueled and killed him, no sweat. He survived Order 66, the Jedi extermination, and made the hard decision to attack the Dark Lord Vader, Anakin Skywalker, his lost apprentice. After a battle of epic proportions, Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated the now Sith Lord in one-on-one combat yet again and left him to die. Darth Vader, found still alive by his master Darth Sidious, was reconstructed and saved through cybernetic enhancements.Darth Vader dueled Obi-Wan again decades later. Obi-Wan seemingly sacrificed his life to use his death as an opportunity to encourage Luke to fight with a motive. He became one with the Force, and even after death, he guided Luke to Yoda and acted as an advisor throughout Luke’s life.
Revan (3994 BBY-3640 BBY)
“You could warn me when I do something bad. Blink once for dark side, twice for light.”
Revan, a favorite among the Star Wars community, was a Human male who played pivotal roles as both Jedi and Sith in the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War. Believed to have been born in the Outer Rim Territories, the man later known as Revan was born around the year 3994 BBY and studied under a number of different Jedi Masters as a Padawan of the Jedi Order.
Recognized by the Jedi Order as an amazing military strategist, Revan was extremely charismatic and influential. He was the poster child Jedi: a hero and a champion. The Mandalorians, a race of extremely hard combatants called him the Butcher.
He took an opportunity to attempt to defeat the Sith Emperor, Darth Vitiate, along with Jedi Knight Malak. While there, the Emperor twisted their minds and corrupted them turning the Jedi Knight into Sith Lords. Revan was a great Sith Lord, but the Jedi Order captured him and cleaned his memory, so they could use this formidable warrior for their own cause. This was something the Jedis had never done before and possibly shows the respect they had for Revan.
Revan fell in love with Bastilla, and together they faced Revan’s apprentice, the Sith Lord Malak. Revan invaded countless Sith bases, butchered infinite numbers of Sith soldiers, and killed dozens of Sith Apprentices and Masters until finally he killed Darth Bandon, Malak’s apprentice.
Darth Malak captured Bastilla and converted her to the dark side of the Force, but Revan wouldn’t give up on love, dueling her and defeating her. She then asked him to turn to the dark side with her and assume his true identity. Raven refused and went on to kill Malak. Bastilla regained her senses for love and fought by the Republic as well.
He was later imprisoned by the Emperor. When Revan was released from his Prison he was determined to finish what he started by ending the Emperor. After being killed in the Battle of the Foundry, his duality forces him to become two entities. His light side part becomes one with the force while his dark side part decides to continue with the plan. Revan attempts to resurrect a disembodied Emperor (not dead, his spirit was still alive) in order to finally kill him. However, he was pursued by a number of the coalition’s greatest heroes, including his own descendants.
Devastated at his failure, the dark Revan was enraged to be visited by his spectral half, but the spirit convinced his other half to release his hold on their physical form and merge once more, making Revan whole. His mind restored, Revan warned the coalition to remain vigilant in the wake of the Emperor’s return, and the ancient Force-user finally became one with the Force. Revan’s physical body vanished as well, leaving only his scarred mask and his lightsaber.
Kyp Durron (7 BBY- )
“No change comes without conflict. Perhaps my destiny is to be the irritant that forces the discussion, the blister that lets you know your boots don’t fit.”
Kyp Durron was a Human male who was a polarizing figure in galactic history, both a leading Jedi Master in Luke Skywalker’s New Jedi Order and a man responsible for many deaths during his anti-Imperial rampage in 11 ABY.
Sentenced to the Kessel prison complex, young Kyp Durron grew up with no love for the Empire after his brother was conscripted into service as a Stormtrooper. His promising Force powers were lightly trained by another prisoner, Vima-Da-Boda, but it wasn’t until a daring escape with Han Solo that Kyp was introduced to formal Jedi training. He began to study at Luke Skywalker’s newly formed Jedi Academy on Yavin 4.
Kyp was a talented and strong student of the force but very arrogant. The spirit of ancient Sith Lord Exar Kun began to exploit this arrogance and turn him to the Dark Side. Kyp turned on Luke, disabling him and then fled the planet. He stole a new Imperial super weapon called the Sun Crusher. The Sun Crusher was a start ship that fired missiles that could cause a star to go Supernova. He used the stolen weapon to destroy the tar system of the planet Carida. He chose Carida because it was the location of the Imperial Military Academy his brother was taken to.
Eventually Master Skywalker and Han Solo were able to bring him back to the Light Side of the Force and Kyp willingly volunteered himself to stand trial for what he did. The New Republic left the final decision to Luke and he allowed Kyp to resume his Jedi training.
Kyp would become a full Jedi Knight and eventually a Jedi Master and member of the Jedi Council by the time of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. He was an outspoken member of the council and still maintained a lot of the arrogance he displayed as a youth but was a respected member of the Jedi Order.
Yoda (896 BBY-4 ABY)
Luke: “All right, I’ll give it a try.”
Master Yoda: “No. Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.”
Yoda was one of the most renowned and powerful Jedi Masters in galactic history. He was a member of a mysterious species, details of which he did not reveal and was named simply Yoda’s species. He was known for his legendary wisdom, mastery of the Force and skills in lightsaber combat. Yoda served as a member of the Jedi High Council in the last centuries of the Galactic Republic and as Grand Master oversaw the Jedi Order before, during and after the devastating Clone Wars. This small guy was the Master of the Jedi Order and Leader of the Jedi Council the longest.
Even knowing that he had immense power, Yoda chose to teach the younglings and be a master, making the youngest of the orders receptive to knowledge and experience. He dedicated his whole life to teaching rather than fighting. The ultimate Sith Master, Darth Sidious, dueled Master Yoda, but Yoda couldn’t beat him. He escaped, saying, “Into exile I must go. Failed, I have…” He was later found by Luke Skywalker several decades later whom he taught about the light side of the Force and briefly trained him.
When Luke returned a year later, Yoda had grown sick and weak, and knew his death was imminent. He informed Luke that his training was complete, but that his final test would be to face Darth Vader. He proceeded to confirm that Darth Vader was his true father.. He also told Luke that he should not underestimate Palpatine, and that he should pass on what he has learned, as the Force runs strong within Luke’s family. With his final breaths, Yoda struggled to tell Luke his final words: “Luke. There is another Skywalker.”
Jacen Solo (9 ABY-41 ABY)
“Possessions are burdens. What you have can always be taken away, so wealth breeds fear.”
Son of Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo, assassins, kidnappers, and burglars targeted Jacen, born on the planet Coruscant, from a very young age because his parents were so famous. When Jacen turned thirteen, he and his sister, Jaina Solo, started to train with their uncle, Luke Skywalker, toward becoming Jedi.
Their brother, Anakin Solo, fought in a war against a race called the Vongs, who nearly destroyed the new Republic. Anakin fought without his brother’s aid because Jacen was against violence and refused to fight. However, Jacen did agree to join an assassination force with his brother. When his brother was killed on that mission, Jacen was forced to become the leader, kill his enemies, and come back mourning all the way home.
Jacen along with the Jedi Knight Nelani Dinn, encountered the Sith Lumiya who convinced Jacen that the only way to the galaxy could be saved was if he joined the dark side. Confused about his feelings to due so, he used his ability of Force Vision to look into the future. He saw the galaxy continuing into war, and he himself killing Luke Skywalker, if she were arrested. Even if he forced Dinn to let Lumiya go, Skywalker would be killed. The only futures in which Skywalker lived were ones in which Dinn died on the asteroid. Reluctantly, Solo chased down Dinn and killed her in the name of the greater good.
He was the one that killed Luke Skywalker’s love, Mara Jade. He tortured his apprentice Ben and continued down the road becoming Darth Caedus. Fate had it that he would be killed by his twin sister Jaina, his former companion.
Luke Skywalker (19 BBY-???)
Obi-Wan Kenobi: “Still, even a duck has to be taught to swim.”
Luke Skywalker: “What’s a duck?”
Obi-Wan: “Never mind.”
Luke, son of the fallen Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and the Queen of Naboo, Padmé Amidala, Luke was raised on Tatooine and hidden from Emperor Palpatine and his father, who had recently become Darth Vader.
Luke destroyed the first Death Star, a severe blow to the Empire. During his mission to stop a second Death Star from being constructed, Vader caught him and brought him to the Emperor, Darth Sidious. Sidious ordered them to fight each other and watched in delight as son fought father. Luke won and refused to turn to the dark side. Darth Sidious then used Force Lightning on Luke, but Vader turned to the light when he saw his son suffering, killing Sidious and dying shortly after. After this, Luke founded a new Jedi Order and started training Jedi, making himself Grand Master.
Luke was always labeled as invincible. He could see the future and had abilities that no other Jedi ever had. At some point prior to 137 ABY, Luke passed away (between 45 ABY and 137 ABY). When he died, he united his spirit with the Force like his father and his mentors.
