Most film stories have heroes and villains. In some cases, the villain is a monstrous creature with extraordinary abilities. Over the years, a few monsters from TV shows and movies have stood out for their physical characteristics and the numerous atrocities they committed. For those who enjoy the thrill of watching scary characters on television, here are some of the worst monsters to ever grace the screens.
1. The Flukeman
The Flukeman is one of the most hideous monsters to ever appear on TV. Featured in season 2 of The X Files, the Flukeman is a slimy creature with a parasitic mouth and sunken eyes. He was born from the radioactive waste released at Chernobyl. In the TV show, the Flukeman appears in the sewers of New Jersey and attacks innocent victims. It’s super strong and can regenerate its body.
2. The Demogorgon

For the millions of fans of Stranger Things, it’s impossible to forget about the Demogorgon. It’s a beast with a flower-shaped head that comes from the upside down. It’s powerful, scary, and has squid-like characteristics. Eleven was the first person to make contact with the Demogorgon.
3. The Demon in Lace
The Demon in Lace is a gnarly-looking succubus that appeared in the first season of Kolchak the Night Stalker. Before feeding on a victim, the monster assumes the face of an attractive woman. However, after killing her victims and feeding on their life force, she reveals her ugly and wrinkly demonic face with exceptionally wild hair.
4. Bloody Mary
The legend of the Bloody Mary has been around for decades. Kids believe she will appear if you say her name thrice in the mirror. The producers of Supernatural incorporated Bloody Mary in their first season, portraying her as dark-haired with no eyes.
In the Supernatural, Bloody Mary could teleport from one reflective surface to another. Her primary victims were people burdened with the guilt of death. Once she catches a victim, she would make sure that their eyes bleed till they die.
5. Changelings

This is another monster from the Supernatural, and it’s way worse than the Bloody Mary. Changelings have been portrayed differently in various TV shows. However, Supernatural’s changeling revolves around children whose true faces can only be seen in the mirror. They have hollow eyes and round mouths filled with hundreds of teeth. It’s a pretty ugly creature.
These changelings take the form of children who bite women’s necks to suck out the synovial fluid. Fortunately, they are no match for the Winchester Boys.
6. The Aswang
Like most shows featured in this article, the Grimm had its fair share of monsters. However, the Aswang was one of a kind. Borrowed from Filipino mythology, the Aswang portrayed in the Grimm is a ghoulish, flat-faced monster with a long tongue.
Its appearance is not very scary, but the actions of the Aswang are quite frightening. Using its long tongue, the Aswang pierces the belly button of a pregnant woman, sedates her before sucking out the fetus. This creature is also exceptionally fast.
7. Parasitic Squids
The second season of Fringe introduced us to the Parasitic Squids. These parasitic squid-looking worms live inside a human being and can do so for a while. However, once they are done with them, they leave the body through the mouth, killing the host almost instantly. This scene is quite disgusting and not for the faint of heart.
8. Vashta Nerada

A Vashta Nerada victim as displayed in Doctor Who.
In the Doctor Who franchise, the Vashta Nerada are tiny microbes that work together to feed on many things. Though small, they create a shadow that can melt flesh when they merge, and it’s what Vashta Nerada translates to. These lethal creatures create shadows to target their victims and are super deadly.
9. Der Kindestod
Donned in a black fedora, Der Kindestod is a monster portrayed in the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He is a vile creature with a disfigured reddish face and teeth that resemble tusks. Der Kindestod feeds on dying children, who are the only people who can see him.
His appearance is so scary for kids who die when they see him. As a result, he sucks their life force. In Der Kindestod’s one-on-one fight with Buffy, he showcases his physical prowess.
10. The Weeping Angels
This is another monster from the Doctor Who franchise. Contrary to their name, the Weeping Angels are not heavenly creatures. They are statue-like figures with wings and move when the victim is not watching.
Weeping angels do not eat their prey alive. However, they send their victims back in time and feed off their remaining time energy. This is quite disorienting because the victims are sent to a time where they do not know anything or anyone. The show also adds some element of fear regarding these monsters.
11. The Gentlemen
They may sound like classy creatures, and they even look the part because they are dressed in black suits, but they aren’t. The Gentlemen are some of the most terrifying monsters to ever appear on TV. In Season 4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, these creatures invade an entire town and steal the voices of the locals before cutting out their hearts. Their biggest weakness is the screams of human beings. However, once they steal a person’s voice, it becomes difficult to scream at them.
12. White Walkers
HBO’s Game of Thrones made its fans scared of white Walkers’ seasons before they appeared on screen. They are zombie-like creatures who have been engulfed by the cold. These otherworldly creatures are super strong and fast. Their icy gaze terrifies even the best warriors in the Game of Thrones series. Their leader, the Night King, was indestructible. White walkers can only die when cut by dragon glass.
