11-15 Mysterious/Paranormal things You’ve Witnessed
11. Me and some buddies were bored one night and decided to head out and poke around an abandoned mental hospital. The only way in was through the autopsy room, the rest of the place was pretty much sealed off. So we go in, me another guy and two girls. As soon as we get into the autopsy room, one of the girls starts hyperventilating and crying. She said she just couldn’t be there anymore.
We tried everything we could to convince her everything was going to be fine, to no avail. She wanted to leave, and wanted to leave NOW! Disappointed, we decided we had to leave. The two girls were walking in front of us, one trying to comfort the other, while me and the other dude walked a bit of a way behind.
I don’t know what brought me to look back, morbid curiosity maybe. But I did. Now, I’ll admit it was dark, but the moon was out so it wasn’t pitch black. Still, I know what I saw. From the window on the second floor, what looked just like a little girl in a white dress was staring back at us. I looked for a good ten seconds, stopped my buddy and had him look without taking my eyes of the thing, and asked him specifically “Do you fu*king see that!?: I thought I may have been seeing things, or maybe it was a trick of the light. But no, we both saw it and stared for a good 20 seconds after. I might have thought it was some kind of trick, but after 20 seconds or so, it moved. We NOPED out of there, passing the girls and screaming at them to get in the car.
Is it possible it could have been some other people there, who happened to bring a girl who might have looked from a distance to be a lot younger than she was? Yes. There were no other cars around though, so whoever it was would have had to walk a pretty good distance to get there. It could have also been a homeless family that was using the place for warmth. Who knows. All I know is what I saw. It was a little girl, in a white dress, staring at us. From the second story window of an abandoned mental joint. At 2 in the morning.
12. I was in 7th grade and we’d just moved in to a “mill town” house: one of the houses built close to a dam and textile mill that used to house the families of mill workers. The upstairs area always gave me an eerie feeling, but I shrugged it off as the discomfort of living in a new place. From the beginning I had trouble sleeping, and was jolted awake in the middle of the night repeatedly for no apparent reason. Then, I started hearing the thumping. It started as occasional, soft thumps, seemingly coming from the attic. I had my dad check it out to ease my mind, but he found no explanation. Fast forward a few weeks, the occasional knocking was becoming louder and I continued to wake up in the middle of the night. One night I was jolted awake again, but this time I heard a loud BANG accompanied by the sound of breaking plastic.
I looked to my window across the room, and the blinds had been completely torn and were in disarray. My door was closed, the windows were closed, and the house was locked up tight. I don’t think I’ve ever run so fast in my life. I made it downstairs pretty quickly and the sound woke my parents, so they went upstairs to check it out. They found no cause or explanation. I slept on the couch downstairs until we moved shortly afterwards.
My parents still live in a neighborhood not far from the house, and I’ve noticed that it never keeps an occupant for too long. Also, I never experienced anything similar until this year. I live in an apartment with three other people, and on occasions on which one of us has been home alone around 2 am, we’ve heard knocking sounds as if someone is at the door. In my roommate’s experience, the knocking quit when she answered the front door. In my experience, the knocking stopped when I turned the lights on. It’s pretty eerie.
13. I went to pick up my daughter from a dance on the waterfront. I was early so I walked near the lake. I saw something very bright… not moving at about 20 degrees up (Sirius was at about 40 degrees that night). Then I looked down and saw a pure white coyote walking along the water’s edge. Even though I purposefully made a lot of noise so as to not startle the coyote, it didn’t not acknowledge I was there.
I looked back at the “star” which was still not moving but suddenly went from exceptionally bright dimming down to nothing. I looked back to the coyote and it was gone too (although it was a very dark night). This all happened at 12:30 a.m. The next morning I woke up to a phone call telling me my best friend had died in Norway. He died at 6:30 am local time… 12:30 am my time.
14. When I was 9 years old, my uncle committed suicide when he lived with us.
He had lived with us for about 6 months at the time, and I had become really close with him during that time. I remember as a kid I had a severe fear of crows because of The Stand mini-series, and he was always trying to help me realize that they were just birds like all the other birds that I loved. I couldn’t really shake that fear I had of them, and one of the last things he ever said to me was that he was proud of me for at least trying.
Anyways, after his funeral, walking to my first day back to school, a crow followed me all the way there – 6 blocks. It followed me to school every day to school until we moved a month later, every day without fail. I literally started calling it Jim (my uncles name) and I am no longer afraid of them.
15. Years ago, I was sleeping with my fiancé at his mother’s house. I woke up in the middle of the night with the weirdest feeling that someone was watching me. I scan the room & notice someone standing at the foot of the bed, on my fiancé’s side. The figure was pitch black & featureless. I’m terrified & I think, “oh, I must be dreaming.” Then I look over at fiancé & he’s staring at it too. It was the most horrifying moment ever. Suddenly, fiancé sits up really quickly and aggressively. In that moment, the thing disappeared. Afterward, I wanted to dig a hole in the mattress & sleep under him. I found out later that pretty much everyone in his family has seen this thing & they call it “the shadow.” It still makes my skin crawl thinking about it. That night was the most frightened I have ever been in my life.
16-20 Mysterious/Paranormal things You’ve Witnessed
16. My grandpa, who was a tough as nails WWII Marine vet, had a little stuffed bunny. He kept it out in the open and when he would walk past it and thought no one was looking, he would pet it. Big old tough guy petting a little stuffed bunny in adorable secrecy. It was an ongoing family joke.
Anyways, he committed suicide and we all went to the house to deal with the police and ME and everything. We stayed in the house that night and it had an overall creepy vibe because of what had happened. We were all naturally upset and struggling and doing dumb things to try to make ourselves laugh to try to deal with it. And we realize the bunny has been moving. Like it would be on the dining table and then we would see it in the den an hour later. I thought someone was doing it as a joke. But everyone swore they wouldn’t do that and we never caught anyone doing it. I kept an eye on that bunny the entire week. Never saw anyone touch it but it would still be moved! I think granddad was playing jokes on us. Not the most convincing or scary story but I like it.
His cell phone also called his landline. That was weird.
17. This isn’t my story but my mom’s, she is an extremely rational person but this event caused her to have such severe panic attacks that she had to return and live with her parents for six months. All of this happened a few years before I was born.
My mom’s first husband was a Navy pilot during the Gulf War. The carrier was about ten days into it’s cruise and operating with complete radio silence. She hadn’t heard anything from the ship since it left but that was to be expected, this was a war. On that night about ten days into the cruise my mom woke up suddenly in the middle of the night. She saw her husband standing in the room. It wasn’t an ethereal form either, he appeared solid and utterly the same. The only thing different about him was that his head was shaved. He only had one thing to say, “Goodbye.” This whole experience startled my mom and she couldn’t get back to sleep. She went to the kitchen to get some water when the doorbell rang. All military wives know what the late night doorbell means. Her husband had suffered a massive heart attack and died aboard the carrier. She was grief ridden but reasoned that the apparition had been a hallucination born of the stress of having a spouse deployed. Besides with his head shaved, he didn’t even look that familiar. Her mother and mother-in-law flew out immediately to plan for the funeral and receive the body. She stayed strong until the first viewing of the body. Her lifeless husband was bald. In a letter from his NFO the shaved head was explained as the result of a lost bet. There had been no way of knowing that his head had been shaved and my mom suffered a minor mental break.
18. During most of my life my mother ran a daycare. One of the kids was named Dylan. Dylan was really smart and somewhat rebellious, but not a jerk-kid. We all liked him, but he was always a bit off. So one day he’s sitting at the kitchen table eating his snacks. The other kids were done and it was just him and my mom. He had some carrots left but was out of juice. My mom asked him if he wanted more. His response freaks us out today, almost 20 years later. Keep in mind, he was something like 7 when this happened. I was visiting and making a sandwich and this happened.
“Well, miss, I’d prefer some whiskey, if you wouldn’t mind obliging me.”
“What? Whiskey? no.” (With a laugh.)
“Beggin’ your pardon, miss, but it’s been a long day. I’ve come a long way. I’m going to turn in soon and am not here to cause any trouble. I’ve heard you have whiskey and I’m more than happy to pay for it. I’m having a good week.”
This made no sense. This was a little kid. Our family certainly had no whiskey in the house (we were teetotalers). His parents rarely let him watch TV, let alone old-timey westerns. But here he was accent and all sounding like Jeff Bridges in True Grit.
My mom, though just reacted. “No, Dylan, no whiskey for you. Orange juice.” She set down a sippy cup of the OJ goodness.
“Ma’am, that’s just not going to cut it. I came all the way down from Wyoming and by tarnation I’m a man who wants some whiskey. If you can’t provide it then I’ll find someone who can!”
He stood up, made for the front door, and got it open before my mom grabbed him. Presto: He was back to normal. “Can I have some juice?”
Nothing he did during this time was “him”. His body language was different, his voice was way lower, and he was totally into what he was doing. It happened a few times after that. At some point (later, when I wasn’t there) my mom asked him who he was. He gave a name that was something along the lines of “Thomas Jeremy Armstrong”. She got really into it and started asking about his life. He was apparently lumber prospector and trader who lived his later years somewhere north of Sacramento (we were in Washington State) and had a wife who died from a fever. This kid was in the first grade. My mom then asked when he was born and he said, “December 14th, 1856. It was a Sunday.” Sure enough IT WAS A FU*KING SUNDAY.
This kinda stuff has always held a mild fascination for me, but this kid was something else. I have no idea how this works, but it’s freaky to this day.
19. You should know that I consider myself to be a very rational person. I’m not superstitious, and I don’t believe in psychic powers or the supernatural. My best friend, Travis and I used to play guitars together almost every day. That’s not important now, but it will be later. One day we decided to go to the beach with our girlfriends, and take some mushrooms. After a little while, when the mushrooms were kicking in, Travis said that he wanted to wander off alone, so I stayed with our girlfriends. We all had a great time. As the sun began to set, Travis’ girlfriend asked me, “Where’s Travis?” None of us knew where he was, but I could hear him playing the guitar, so I suggested that we just follow the sound of the music until we got to him. The girls told me that I must have really good hearing, because they couldn’t hear anything. I said, “Well, I can definitely hear it, so just follow me.” Now here’s the strange part: I followed the sound for several minutes, into the forest, and went directly to him, but when we reached him, he did not have a guitar, and I realized that we had left our guitars at home! I still have no idea how that happened.
20. I was spending the night at a friend’s house as a kid (around 12-13). Parents weren’t home so we decided to go out, do some ding dong ditching, get into some young angsty debauchery. We get home, and it’s around 1 or 2 in the morning. Cue a ringing of the doorbell; naturally we think it’s the cops or a pissed off neighbor. My friend had a small window that looked out onto the front porch that you couldn’t really see into from outside, so we took a peek at who was calling at such a late hour. Standing at the door was an old woman in a dress and a young boy in a weird newsie outfit. Both were dressed EXTREMELLY out of period, as this was the 90’s, and my friend had never seen either in the neighborhood before. We duck because we’re a bit freaked, look again no less than 10 seconds later and they’re both gone. Nobody on the street walking away, no cars driving away, they were just gone without a trace. We did not sleep well.
