14. Pet Hyena
A Man and a hyena in Nigeria. This photo is from a project called ‘The Hyena and Other men’ by photographer Pieter Hugo. The photographer has a bunch of pictures here with locals and their crazy pets. He had one of 4 or 5 guys with snakes, cheetah, hyena, the one just had a typical dog.
15. Sharing Meal

This is an amazing photo that has inspired many people to visit that particular place, but, please, to anyone who sees this and now thinks “boy I want to go there!” I beg you to reconsider and look into the controversy Tiger Temple Thailand is immersed in. It is not the white-clad charity wildlife rescue it claims to be. Many people will just come in and say “oh the tigers are drugged”, people will think “psh no they aren’t” or “drugs don’t sound so bad to me”, so on the subject of “drugged” tigers:
Although I have seen no direct proof that these tigers are drugged as in ‘sedated to allow people to touch them’, the important part is that even without drugging the place this photo came from is horrible. Modern American zoos operate based on quality of life for the individual animals and overall conservation focus; Tiger Temple Thailand is based on making money by letting tourists pet wild carnivores, and have husbandry quality that is sub-par at best and actively abusive/neglectful at worst. There are also accusations from past volunteers that they participate in illegal wildlife trafficking or lie about where their tigers come from/go. This is where the tigers live in individual bare concrete-and-metal cages. This is an emaciated tiger on display in their petting area. The report where these photos came from. A scroll through their photos alone should rouse suspicion. They also participate in rampant overbreeding and inbreeding of their tigers and are basically the antithesis of responsible tiger management in captivity. The magical feeling of this photo hides a whole lot of sad and hypocrisy.

19. Open Heart Surgery
Patient has open-heart surgery whilst awake. The astonishing picture of Swaroup Anand shows just how far open-heart surgery has come. The 23-year-old went under the knife in Bangalore at Wockhardt Hospital while he was still very much awake. The patients are given a mild sedative rather than being knocked out. This drops their heart rate but means they can respond to commands. As the patient is awake the doctors also have a better idea of how the body is reacting to the surgery from their respiratory system to their brain function.
20. Family Meal
Siberian family meal. Yes they are eating it raw. For those thinking this isn’t healthy, yes this is true, but blood is sterile unless there is something extremely wrong. Most organisms do not have bacteria, etc. in their blood. Yes, there could be parasites, however, that is unlikely. This would not be a dietary staple if this animal (caribou? elk?) was prone to parasites. The smell metallic of blood is a mix of iron and copper in your blood. However, it doesn’t generally have that smell unless it comes into contact with perspiration or oils in your skin. Blood in test tubes, for example do not have that really metallic smell. It’s there but, there is a very different overtone.
21. Widow
94-year-old widow receives remains of her fallen husband, six decades after his death. Army Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Gantt told his wife to remarry if he didn’t come back from the Korean War. In 1950, Gantt went missing during combat in the Korean War. He was presumed dead, but Clara Gantt, now 94, held out hope and never remarried. In 2013, on the Los Angeles International Airport tarmac, the widow stood from her wheelchair and cried as her husband’s flag-draped casket arrived home. He was one of hundreds of U.S. soldiers whose remains have been turned over by the North Korean government in recent years.
22. Childhood Friends
Two childhood friends meet during a demonstration. One is a striker, the other one, a policeman. Saint-Brieuc, France, 1972.
On April 6, 1972 in Saint-Brieuc, a town in Brittany, the workers from the company Joint Français went on strike. The CRS (French riot police) moved in. Face to face, are Guy Burmieux, a worker, and Jean-Yvon Antignac, a riot policeman. Jacques Gourmelen, the photographer, was covering local news for the newspaper Ouest-France. “I took the photo on instinct. Burniaux had recognized his old friend and classmate,” said the photographer to his colleague Véronique Constance, on the 40th anniversary of this legendary strike. “I saw him go toward his friend and grab him by the collar. He wept with rage and told him, ‘Go ahead and hit me while you’re at it!’ The other one didn’t move a muscle.”

24. Reunited
Father (YPG fighter) and daughter (YPJ fighter) reunited after months of fighting ISIS in Kobanê. YPG translated to English stands for “People’s Protection Units” and YPJ is “Women’s Protection Units.”
25. Wolf skin
This is a Chinese girl named Liu Jiangli in 2012, six-year-old at that time, with “wolf skin” disease, a rare condition leaving her covered in black fur. This rare condition effects just one in a billion people. Liu was abandoned by both of her parents.
