Growing up, most kids think their parents are wrong in most aspects of life. It’s completely normal. However, as one grows into a young adult and gets the freedom to do whatever one wants, a few scenarios leave you thinking – Mom and Dad were right. Here are some things that people have admitted their parents were 100% right about.

1. There is Food at Home

If possible, all kids would have all their meals from their favorite restaurants every day. However, when most parents were asked if they could pass by a McDonalds or KFC, the answer would be – there is food at home! Later in life, one realizes there is indeed food at home because it is much cheaper and probably healthier.

2. We (Parents) Know Best

Growing up, most people’s parents loved boasting about how they knew best. Most kids do not believe this, but it is true. Whether it’s mom or dad, they have been around much longer. Therefore, they are wiser and smarter. They know better through their experiences and mistakes, and it’s best to listen to their advice.

3. Tell People You Care About Them

Whether friends or family, failing to express care and concern at the moment can lead to a life of regret. Because people won’t always be around forever.

4. It is That Damn Phone

In almost every household, whenever anyone complained, mom’s answer would be, “It’s that damn phone.” Looking at it from today’s perspective, they were right. Smartphones have a very negative impact on society. They affect a person’s sleep schedule and cognitive abilities, and excessive use has been linked to anxiety and depression.

5. This Heartbreak Shall Pass

Everyone gets their first and most traumatic heartbreak during their teen years. During this period, parents may offer words of encouragement like “This heartbreak shall pass.” And even though it can be difficult to believe these feelings will fade, they eventually do. This advice also comes in handy when one starts dating in their 20s or 30s.

6. Telling Lies is Bad

Parents were always against lying; if caught, there was a risk of being grounded for a week or two. Looking at it now, lying is a bad trait that can get someone in trouble at work or with friends and partners. It’s a vice that can break strong bonds.

7. Save Money

Saving money allows people to live more comfortable lives. With some savings in the account, one won’t be pressured about life events such as losing a job, falling sick, or even retirement. From a young age, parents always encouraged kids to save money no matter how little it was. Those few dollars would come in handy in the future.

8. Work Hard

The chores that our parents used to give us on weekends or holidays may have seemed meaningless, but they were training us to work hard. In today’s world, it is impossible to succeed without hard work. Those chores prepare kids for the hard work that needs to be done during adulthood.

9. Wear a Jacket Before Going Out

Because children are so active, they rarely feel cold when playing outside. However, a few years later, most people, especially those in colder climates, always carry a jacket before heading out.

10. Learn How to Do Laundry

Being taught how to wash clothes appeared to be a waste of time for most kids. But without mom’s or dad’s lessons, you’d probably be a mess right now.

11. Use the Bathroom before Leaving Home or Sleeping

In many households, kids were always asked to use the bathroom before heading out or going to bed. However, as a young adult, it now makes sense why using parents the bathroom was mandatory. It remains a standard practice for many people even as they grow old.

12. Go to Bed Early

Back then, sleeping late while playing video games or talking to friends was very fun. But nothing beats getting 8 hours of sleep, and that’s why parents always ask children to go to bed early. Not to mention, for kids and teenagers, adequate sleep is needed for body growth and development.

13. There’s Always Tomorrow

When something bad happens to a kid, it feels like the world has ended. But parents always encouraged their children that “There’s Always Tomorrow.” This taught kids that every new day is an opportunity to start afresh. No matter how bad things may seem today, something new and better could happen out of the blues tomorrow.

14. Do What You Love

Whether football or playing the piano, parents are always the biggest supporters of their kids’ passions. All parents want to see their children happy, and nothing brings joy other than watching a child do what they love. As a person ages, responsibilities can hinder you from doing what you love. But always find a way to get back to what you enjoy.

15. Eat Those Vegetables

Vegetables may not be the best-tasting meals, but they are nutritious. During dinner, our parents had to force us to eat veggies. It may have seemed that they didn’t have our best interests at the moment, but they wanted to raise healthy babies. As one transitions into adulthood, no one forces you to eat vegetables. Most conscious young adults today prefer salads to junk food.

16. Be Nice to Siblings

Most homes are warzones, and as annoying as siblings can be, they are the best friends we were born with. As life becomes more hectic, the value of siblings becomes more visible. Siblings will always be there no matter the situation.

17. Do the Homework First

On long weekends or holidays, homework was the last thing on every kid’s to-do list. But little do children know that they are being prepared to be punctual. Homework later turned into emails, projects, or jobs. Kids who used to do their homework first do not struggle with completing assignments on time.
