The Star Wars franchise spans a multitude of books, movies, tv shows, cartoons, comics, video games, and more. In any series that has lasted for as long as this one, and made so many different types of content for so many mediums, there are bound to be some bizarre characters. Whether they were created by George Lucas himself, or by one of the several companies that wrote Star Wars storylines (Disney, Lego, Marvel, etc.), here are the six strangest characters in the Star Wars universe.
1. Jar Jar Binks
This one is obvious, but no list on this subject would be complete without him. In an attempt to appeal to a younger audience and act as a slapstick comedy-relief, George Lucas invented the character Jar Jar, and his alien race, the Gungans. While Jar Jar succeeded in drawing in younger viewers, the character was seen as annoying and unnecessary by the series’ fans.
Perhaps as a way to add meaning to a one-dimensional joke, some fans theorize that Jar Jar was actually a Sith Lord in disguise. They explain his clumsiness by claiming he uses the Drunken Fist style of fighting and cites the fact that in the third prequel movie, he is one of the politicians to vote Emperor Palpatine into power.
2. Yaddle
Another character from the prequel, this time from the Phantom Menace. She appeared as a member of the Jedi council and was just a weirder version of Yoda. Yaddle dies in a comic, saving Anakin’s life. But nothing else is known about her, and Yoda’s alien race is never given a name.
3. R5-D4

Oddly one of the most important characters in the Skywalker Saga, this droid was the red version of R2 that Luke bought first in A New Hope. Why is it so important? Well, turns out this droid was force sensitive and saw a vision where unless it self-destructed after Luke bought it, R2-D2 wouldn’t be able to deliver Leia’s hologram. Strangely deep for a character that appeared for one minute, but looks it up because the lore on it goes a lot deeper.
4. Krelman
This weird humanoid lived on Tatooine and was only ever in the Star Wars Holiday Special. The only two other things we really know about him is that he has more fingers than a regular person and that he can drink by pouring liquid directly onto his brain with a huge hole on the top of his head. The image is a bit haunting.
5. Salacious Crumb
Oh what, that name doesn’t ring a bell? We all know about this guy… right? Just as a refresher, Salacious Crumb was the nasty little gremlin-type alien that Jabba eats when Luke rescues Han Solo.
6. Ackmena
This character was played by none other than Bea Arthur. You read that right. She played Dorothy on The Golden Girls, and she also played Ackmena in the Star Wars Holiday Special. She was in one scene and even had a musical number. If you haven’t seen the Holiday Special, look it up and watch it. It’s so bad it’s good, and it’s definitely the most strange entry into the Star Wars universe. Period.
For the avid Star Wars lore fanatic, and the casual viewer, a simple google search on any one of these names can prove entertaining. Keep in mind, it’s impossible to include ALL the bizarre characters this series has to offer in one list. Trust me; there’s more.
Salacious crumb wasn’t eaten by jabba……
Salacious Crumb was not eating by Jabba. He ate a frog. Salacious Crumb was Jabba’s pet that was eyeing up Jabba’s tail and got shocked by R2D2 after pecked out C3P0 eye. In the Mandalorion his species was seen on a rotisserie over a fire and in a cage.
Salacious Crumb was not eaten by Jabba, you hack fraud!
